Sukanto Tanoto is a firm believer that every company should operate, ultimately, to the benefit of the community. The chairman of RGE, which manages companies such as APRIL, Sateri, and Pacific Oil and Gas, has worked tirelessly along that belief too. This idea of creating shared value through his companies is encapsulated in his 5Cs principle, which aims to create Good for the Community, Country, Climate, Customers, and Company. To that end, all of Sukanto Tanoto’s companies operate based on this philosophy; all decisions are made with this philosophy in mind. His keen interest in philanthropy has also seen him set up the Tanoto Foundation with his wife, Tinah Bingei Tanoto – to date the foundation has benefited many by educating, empowering, and enhancing the quality of lives.
Supporting the local lads
Most recently, PT RAPP, APRIL’s Indonesian subsidiary, continued its long tradition of community-centric initiatives as it unveiled its latest venture in community development – a sponsorship for popular Indonesian football outfit PSPS Pekanbaru. The sponsorship, worth Rp 100 million, will see PT RAPP’s name and logo emblazoned across the team’s jersey. Under the agreement, PT RAPP will also have its name on one of the pitch-side boards at the team’s 20,000 capacity Kaharuddin Nasution stadium.
The partnership between both Sukanto Tanoto’s APRIL and PSPS marks yet another effort by Sukanto Tanoto in rooting for local talent. PSPS, champions of Liga Indonesia First Division back in 1999, will compete in Liga 2 this season. With this fresh injection of funds from APRIL coming along with sponsorship deals with several other companies, PSPS will surely be aiming to make football-crazy Pekanbaru proud. Sukanto Tanoto certainly hopes so too.
