The economy of Kerinci, where APRIL, one of the companies founded by Mr Sukanto Tanoto, has based its Indonesian operations, is transforming in every way as Project RAPP supports entrepreneurs in the region.
RAPP (Riau Andalan Pulp and Paper) is a thriving business that represents APRIL’s investment in Indonesia.
As a member of the RGE group of companies founded by business leader Sukanto Tanoto, RAPP is investing in local entrepreneurs to make its operations good for the people, country, climate and company – in line with the mission of the Tanoto Foundation and Mr. Tanoto’s vision for each of his businesses within the group.
Meet Jufri, Kerinci’s star entrepreneur who is following in Mr. Tanoto’s footsteps
Local resident Jufri is one of the finest examples of a small entrepreneur who has followed in the footsteps of Sukanto Tanoto to realize his dream.
From small beginnings, Jufri has built his business around supplying RAPP with transportation, skilled workers, and rice hull charcoal to support their business operations in the area.
Today, he has 22 employees and will soon add another 15 to his payroll as he opens a new charcoal plant.
Empowering people to lift living standards
Jufri’s success provides inspiration for over a hundred entrepreneurs in Kerinci who are benefitting from Project RAPP. These business-minded residents have the potential to create thousands of jobs for workers in their communities – and the results are clear to see.
Kerinci has grown from a small village to a bustling town of more than 100 000 residents in recent years, as APRIL’s investment on behalf of the RGE group continues to stimulate the economy and create opportunities for growth.
